ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS:
Without Andaman & Nicobar the discussion about Island In India is incomplete. These two islands are separated by 10◦N parallel. The Andaman lie to the north of this latitude whereas Nicobar to the south of it. Port Blair and Car Nicobar are the capitals of Andaman & Nicobar Islands respectively. Andaman has 325 islands and Nicobar has 247 islands. The only active volcano, Barren Island is located here.
These islands are attractions for tourists. The main spots for tourist’s attraction here are-Cellular Jail, Havelock Island, Viper Island, Ross Island and Radhanagar beach.
Cellular Jail: It was a prison during Colonial period. It was then known as Kala Pani. It was constructed in 1906. Many freedom fighters were prisoned here. It is now displayed as a national memorial monument.
Havelock Island: It is the largest island of Ritchie’s Archipelago (chain of islands in Andaman Island).
Viper Island: Viper Island was used as a prison during colonial period before the construction of cellular jail.
Ross Island: It was the seat for British administration.
Radhanagar Beach: It was voted as the best beach in Asia by TIME in 2004. It is a beautiful beach to travel.
ISLAND IN ANDHRA PRADESH:
Bhavani, Diviseema, Gollapalem, Hope Island and Sriharikota are the islands in the state.
Bhavani Island: It is at Vijaywada in River Krishna. Undavalli caves, Prakasam barrage, Akkanna Madanna caves, Durga ghat, Kondapalliar are major attractions here.
Diviseema Island: The Island is in Krishna district of the state. Hamsaladeevi beach and Venugopala Swamy temple are famous here.
Gollapalem: It is a river island in Krishna district.
Hope Island: Hope Island is a tadpole shaped island in east Godavari district. The northern tip of the island is known as Godavari point.
Sriharikota: It is in Nellore district. And one of the most important Island in India. Satish Dhawan Space Centre ( a satellite launch centre of India ) is located here.
ISLAND IN ASSAM:
The largest river island of the world, Majuli Island is situated here. It is in the river Brahmaputra. In 2016, it became the first island which was declared as the district.
ISLAND IN BIHAR:
Raghopur Diyara Island is a river island in river Ganges. Pipa pul connects it to Patna.
ISLAND IN DAMAN & DIU:
Daman & Diu is the Union Territory of India where Diu is an Island. Diu fort is of tourist attraction here. It was built by Portuguese during the colonial period. Fortin do Mar, a magnificent stone structure in the sea is also an eye catching structure here.
ISLAND IN GOA:
Anjadip, Conco, Chorao, Divar, Sao Antonio, Sao Jacinto are the islands here. And these are the most favourite Island In India for foreigner.
Anjadip Island: It is in south Goa. Angediva fortress, shrines of our Lady of Brotao and Sao Francisa de Aisis are the tourist places here.
Conco Island: It is situated near Agonda Beach. It is surrounded by the greeny nature.
Chorao Island: The Island is situated at the Mandovi Many rich and noble men resided here so it is also known as Ilha dos Fidulgos (Island of Noblemen).
Divar Island: It is situated in river Mandovi. It is also known as Dipavati or small island.
Sao Antonio Island: The Island is near Vasco da Gama coast. It is connected to Chicalim coast by a narrow strip of land.
Sao Jacinto Island: It is situated in Zuari River. It is covered forests. Portuguese Light house helps tourists to have a view of the Indian Ocean and Goa coast.
ISLAND IN GUJARAT:
Bet Dwarka, Piram and Pirotan are islands in Gujarat.
Bet Dwarka: It is located at the mouth of Gulf of Kutch. It is believed to be the abode of Lord Krishna.
Piram Island: It is in Gulf of Cambay. It houses the fossils of dinosaur eggs, gigantic turtles and giraffe. Many ship wrecks belonging to 14th century are also found here.
Pirotan Island: The Island is in Jamnagar district. Visitors are prohibited here so, permission from Forest department, Custom department and the port is necessary for visiting the place.
ISLAND IN JAMMU & KASHMIR:
Dal Lake has 3 islands. Char Chinar is the island in Dal Lake. Rupa Lanka is an island in Bod Dal, Sona Lanka is in Lokut Dal.
ISLAND IN KARNATAKA:
Netrani, Kurumgad, Uppinakudru Islands are in the state.
Netrani Island: The Island is near Murudeshwar in Bhatkal Taluk. It is a coral island which houses several coral reefs. It attracts people for its scuba diving.
Kurumgad Island: It is a tortoise shaped island. Narasimha temple is a tourist attraction here.
Uppinakudru Island: It is a small island village in Udupi district. It is well known for Yakshagana puppet show.
ISLAND IN KERALA:
There are 22 islands in Kerala. Poovar, Vypeen, Bolgatty, Kuruvadweep and Ponnumthuruthu islands are to name few.
Poovar Island: It lies in Trivandrum district near Vizhinjam. The Poovar beach is the tourist attraction here.
Vypeen Island: This is a part of Kochi. It is one of the densely populated islands in Asia. It was formed aftermath of a heavy flood in 1341.
Bolgatty Island: It is also in Kochi. It has a marina, first of its kind in India.

Ponnumthuruthu Island: The Island is located at Vakkom. It is away from the main town so people visit it often.
ISLAND IN LAKSHADWEEP:
It is a group of islands in the Arabian Sea. Kavaratti is its capital. The marine life, resorts and mosques are of tourist attractions. Few islands in the Union Territory to name are Bangaram Island, Minicoy, Agatti, Kalpeni, Kavaratti Island Lagoon etc.
ISLAND IN MADHYA PRADESH:
Hanumanitya Island is a spot for tourism here. It is under the development of Madhya Pradesh Development Corporation.
ISLAND IN MAHARASHTRA:
There are some islands in the state like Gowalkot, Khanderi, Murudjanjira, Subarnadurg, Under and Yeshwantgad. Murudjanjira is an island in the state which has a magnificent fort. Janjira is one of the strongest marine forts in India. There are 7 islands in Mumbai. Isle of Bombay, Colaba, Old Woman’s Island, Mahim, Mazagaon, Parel, Worli are the 7 islands. There are many small islands too. Elephanta island is one of them. Elephanta Island is famous for its rock cut temple- Elephanta Cave.
ISLAND IN MANIPUR:
Karang is India’s first cashless island. It is a small lake island. It is located in the midst of Loktak lake.

Abdul Kalam Island, Hukitola and Subalaya are the islands in the state. Dr. Abdul Kalam Island was formally known as Wheeler Island. It was on 4th September 2015 renamed as Dr. Abdul Kalam Island in honour of Dr. Abdul Kalam .
ISLAND IN TAMIL NADU:
There are 8 islands in the state. Hare Island lie in the Tuticorin port. It is a part of Gulf of Mannar Marine National Park. Pamban Island or Rameswaram Island is located between India and Sri Lanka. It is famous as pilgrimage centre.
ISLAND IN WEST BENGAL:
There are 8 islands in the state. To name few, Sagar Island is one among them. It has the largest village known as Ganga Sagar. It is in South Kolkata. And it is a pilgrimage centre. It has pilot station and a light house. Nayachar Island is in Hooghly river. Morichijhapi, Ghoramara are islands in Sundarban. Ghoramara island is disappearing due to erosion and rise in sea level.
